Football predictions and bookmaker margins How much is your bookmaker really taking?

The thrill of the match is yours. The commission hidden in every odd goes to the bookmaker. We calculate it on every match, and we name who takes the most.

See how it's calculated

Odds are a probability: 1 ÷ 1.90 = 52.6%. Add up a match's three outcomes and the total should come to 100%.

Total: 105.0%. The extra 5.0% is kept by the bookmaker, whether you win or not.

Example odds, typical of a league match.

The Friday letter, before the weekend's football

Every Friday morning, before the weekend's football: an honest record of the week, misses included, and the licensed operator taking the least on the upcoming matches. Free, one email a week (in French), one-click unsubscribe.

How it works

  1. 1

We put a number on what each operator takes

On every match, MARGE compares the odds of all available bookmakers and calculates the commission built into each one's price. You see who is cheapest before you stake.

  2. 2

We look at the match, not just the odds

Recent form, standings, past head-to-heads: what every fan checks before a match, we put numbers on too (official football-data.org data).

  3. 3

    We publish our losses too

Every pick is timestamped before kick-off and verified automatically against the score. Losers appear in the same place as winners. Find another site that does that.

Work out the margin on a match

Copy in your bookmaker's odds and the margin appears straight away. The maths runs here; nothing is sent anywhere.

Leave “X” empty for a match without a draw (tennis, basketball).

Football predictions by league (in French)

How we build our football predictions

Every day, MARGE records the odds of operators licensed in France for Ligue 1, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Champions League and other league matches. For each match, we strip out the bookmaker's margin to get the real probability of each outcome, then cross it with team form, the league table and past head-to-heads.

A match only becomes a verifiable prediction when the market points to a clear favourite. The prediction is then timestamped before kick-off and automatically checked against the official score: missed predictions stay published in the archive, just like the winning ones.

Match pages, the margin comparison and the archive are free. They help you understand a match and what each operator takes from your stake, not promise a win: no prediction is a sure thing.

Models

Our analysis models

MARGE uses no human tipsters. Every analysis is produced by an automated, clearly identified model — full transparency on the method.

Odds Model (AI)

Analyses the bookmaker margin and the gaps between odds
Compares several bookmakers in real time to gauge the fairest price and spot market disagreements.

Form Model (AI)

Analyses recent form and team statistics
Weighted points per game, home/away form and standings — from official football-data.org data.

History Model (AI)

Analyses past head-to-head meetings
Results of previous meetings to nuance the reading when one team regularly dominates the other.
—

These three models don't work separately: their signals are combined to produce the single call shown on each match ("Our read").

The win-rate and prediction-count meters fill in automatically as analysed matches end and their result is verified. No figure is entered by hand: as long as no prediction is settled, they stay at "—".

Why models, not humans?

No ego, no bias

A model doesn't "fall in love" with a team and isn't trying to be right. It applies criteria, full stop.

The same method every match

The criteria never change with mood, a match's hype, or the urge to "win it back" after a loss.

Results can't be cherry-picked

Every prediction is recorded before the match and verified automatically against the official score. Losers are published just like winners.

A transparent calculation

For each match you can see the margin, the probabilities and the gaps behind the read (Stats tab).

No human involvement in computing the predictions. The analyses combine real-time odds and official statistical data (football-data.org). Method details in the Stats tab.

Our method

Nothing hidden, not even the losses.

Every prediction goes through four steps. No tipster, no black box: calculations you can redo yourself. The figures further down come from predictions actually tracked, not from estimates.

  1. 01

    Collect the odds

The 1X2 odds of the operators licensed in France, across every competition we follow, several times a day.

  2. 02

    Remove the margin

We add up the probabilities of the three outcomes: whatever exceeds 100% is the margin. We remove it to get the real probability.

  3. 03

    Cross-check with the teams

Form, standings, goals, head-to-head: the season's results refine our reading of the market.

  4. 04

    Check against the score

Every prediction is timestamped before kick-off, then checked automatically. Losing ones stay published.

The margin, explained on a real match

Internacional – Corinthians, Betclic odds recorded on 6 October 2026: 2.12 · 3.10 · 3.17.

The margin is taken on every bet, won or lost. Comparing before you bet reduces it without changing your prediction.

Understand our analysis

How to read an odd

A decimal odd represents what €1 staked returns if the bet wins, stake included. An odd of 1.68 returns €1.68 for €1 staked. The lower the odd, the more likely the bookmaker considers the outcome. The inverse of the odd (1 / odd) estimates the implied probability — but it always includes the bookmaker margin, so it is slightly above the true probability.

What is the bookmaker margin

The implied probabilities of a match's three outcomes always add up to more than 100%: the excess is the bookmaker margin, its commission on every bet. Full calculation, examples and thresholds: our guide to the bookmaker margin.

How a prediction is chosen

For each match, MARGE compares the odds of all available bookmakers and finds the cheapest outcome: the market favourite. If even the best odd stays high (above about 2.30), there is no clear favourite — the match is flagged as "balanced" and not turned into a verifiable prediction. Otherwise the read shown is "Favourite win", then refined with team form and standings when that data is available.

The "market confidence" figure, in practice

The confidence percentage shown on each analysis is not an opinion: it is the implied probability of the favourite, recomputed after removing the bookmaker margin (the three outcomes brought back to 100%). A match at 65% therefore means the market, margin removed, estimates the favourite's win at about two chances in three.

Win rate and flat-stake ROI

The win rate is the share of winning predictions among those that were settled — cancelled or refunded matches are neutral. ROI assumes the same one-unit stake on every prediction: a +7% ROI means that staking €1 each time would have ended with 7 cents net profit per bet on average. It is more honest than a plain win rate, since it accounts for the odds played.

Frequently asked questions

Does MARGE guarantee winnings?

No, and be wary of anyone who promises it. MARGE analyses odds and data to help you decide with full knowledge. No prediction, however solid, guarantees a result — sport stays uncertain by nature.

Is MARGE a bookmaker? Can I bet on the site?

No. MARGE is an analysis service and an odds comparator for information purposes. We take no bets and don't allow online betting. You bet where you want, at the bookmaker of your choice.

Who makes the predictions? Humans?

No human tipster. Every analysis is produced by automated models, clearly identified in the Tipsters tab. They cross real-time odds (bookmaker margin, gaps) with the teams' official statistical data.

Where do the odds and data come from?

The odds come from several bookmakers via a dedicated API; the team data (form, standings, head-to-heads) comes from football-data.org, an official source. Everything is retrieved automatically.

How are the statistics shown calculated?

From predictions actually tracked, whose result is verified automatically against official scores at the end of the match. Winners and losers are both published — showing only the wins is impossible. ROI is computed at flat stake (1 unit per prediction).

Which leagues are covered?

Twelve competitions: Ligue 1, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, Championship, Champions League, Liga Portugal, Brazil Série A, Nations League and Coupe de France.

Is MARGE paid?

No. Every analysis of the day, the margin comparison, the verified archive and the weekly letter are free to access, with no account and no subscription. We receive no payment from bookmakers.
